In Missouri, there are a few different documents that you will need to be successful throughout the divorce process. While every divorce is different and may require a variety of different documents, there are a few essentials that nearly everyone going through this process will need to present.
This first of these essential documents is the Petition for the Dissolution of Marriage. This is the initial paperwork requesting the divorce. Submitting this document will initiate the legal divorce process. This document can be submitted in a few different ways, including utilizing the county sheriff or through a private process server.
Another document that both spouses must submit is the “Statement of Income and Expenses.” This information is used in a situation in which there is alimony to be discussed. This can also come into play if one of the spouses is asking for child support.
When a child is involved, a parenting plan must also be submitted. This outlines the child’s schedule as well as each parent’s involvement. In a nutshell, this document outlines how the child is going to be raised after the divorce. If both spouses cannot come to an agreement in this document, they may leave it to the judge to decide.
As stated above, every divorce is different, so it is important to seek the consultation of an attorney in order to make sure that you have all of the correct documents in order and that you are proceeding in the best way possible. At Bardol Law Firm, LLC, we want to help you feel confident throughout the entire process.
